I think I just saw a meteor
« on: July 08, 2012, 01:37:25 AM »
This one was pretty bright, moving kind of south to north.  I could see it clearly even with the street lights, and the moon was behind it, and I didn't have my glasses on.

I wasn't aware of any meteor showers scheduled for early July.  Guess it might have been a satellite or a large hunk of space junk burning up.

Meteors fall to earth pretty much every single day. The vast majority are no larger than a pebble and burn up completely in the atmosphere. Meteor showers are only when a number of them radiate out from the same point in the sky, and are usually caused by large clumps of dust which are often associated with comets.

I saw a Comet once.

It came from Mercury  =)

I spend a lot of time driving around in rural areas at night. even just looking out the windshield I see several a month. The green ones are my favorite.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

You sure it wasn't Mrs. Smith, running from a spider found in the shower?

Couldn't have been me. You'd have heard the screams.

I've seen a couple shooting stars (like about three) and that's it. Guess I haven't spent enough time stargazing.

They told me they had to stop doing the probes. Too many of the guys they used to picked up in the middle of the night from the sheep fields seemed to enjoy them too much.  :O

I just spent some time explaining why the probe didn't seem to effect Hawking.
