Wildland fire danger in the West

An interesting story about fire conditions in the West.  Although this article was written with an eye towards Central Washington, it seems that fire danger is going to be going up throughout the West.  I would be interested in Tallpine's opinion on this.

We've already had one bad fire close by this year in June.

We got a little rain finally, but we remain just one lightning strike and and a hot wind away from disaster.

Last year we had record moisture and flooding  ;/

We don't really have beetle kill in our area of Ponderosa pine.

decades of ill-conceived timber harvesting

I'm not sure what the hell they mean by this ???  The article doesn't provide any examples.

Logging has almost gone away now.  Everytime the FS wants to do some thinning for fire protection, the eco-nazis sue to stop it.  They would rather see the trees burn than be harvested, and they actually would rather see beetle kill and fire kill trees rot than be harvested

The loggers used to pay to thin the forests, and now the FS has to pay contractors to do the work.  =(

It's summertime.  Of COURSE California catches fire.  It's what we DO!
