Thanks for the Arlo Guthrie "City of New Orleans". I had completely forgotten that one.

And the Lightfoot trilogy made me think of another by Gordo. "The Watchman's Gone"

When I saw the hread title "City of New Orleans" was the first thing that popped into my mind. Many of the others I've never even heard of. I've led a sheltered life...........

I usually think of the Seldom Scene's rendition of "City of New Orleans." Hard to imagine anyone does it better. Sadly, I don't have it on hand, and it doesn't seem to be on Youtube.

It seems "City of New Orleans" was actually written by Steve Goodman, not Guthrie.

Yup, Passengers Will Please Refrain is a song its own self.

My grandmother used to sing this to us:

Yes, it is correct.  City of New Orleans (S. Goodman) has been covered by Willie Nelson, Arlo Guthrie, John Cash, Judy Collins, and many others.
Steve Goodman also wrote the perfect country and western song, also with a train in it, and equal parts of truck, prison, rain, momma, and getting drunk.
