Cheapest way to ship a moderately bulky package
« on: September 20, 2012, 01:24:28 AM »
I need to ship a speaker cabinet from Seattle to Maryland. It's roughly 23x22x18 and 44lbs pre packaging dimensions. Estimates from the big carriers seem to run around $100-110. Anyone either know of a reliable shipping method outside USPS/UPS/Fed-Ex, or work in Washington and have an account that gets a discount on shipping?

Have you checked with Greyhound?

I had no idea they did freight. I'll check, thanks. :)

Thank god and greyhound she's gone.

$100 through a common carrier shipper?  Sounds high by about 100%.  A roughly 2x2x2 cube of less than 50lbs is pretty much the mainstay of ground-ship carriers.

I just did a cost estimate for UPS ground and they are saying $56 for residential delivery (no insurance added, and using your own packaging).

It you can drop it off at their terminal, you might want to look at LTL carriers.

We have had great luck with Greyhound for packages that are over the UPS/FedEx size limits.  It isn't convenient, as you have to drop off and pick up at a bus terminal, but it is cheap!  Just make sure you pack it very well and use fiber tape to reinforce the box.

Call Mal and his crew.

If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

My wife often says to me, "You are evil and must be destroyed." She may be right.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

Got a trash compactor?  Sounds like you might be able to get it in a small Flat Rate box with enough pressure.

You could send the plans & dimensions and a Home Depot gift card for the wood and stuff in an envelope...  =D

With such a light package, not really worth it. To go Seattle to Maryland you're talking about 350 for bare bones as slow as possible LTL shipping.
That is all. *expletive deleted*ck you all, eat *expletive deleted*it, and die in a fire. I have considered writing here a long parting section dedicated to each poster, but I have decided, at length, against it. *expletive deleted*ck you all and Hail Satan.
