I'm in the cautiously hopeful group. Loved the original trilogy. Hated most of the next, even though it had such tremendous potential. The rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker is such a platground for the imagination. Lucas apparently ran out of good creativity in the 80's, though, and gave us a bunch of crap.
What we've seen out of Disney in the recent past is a real drive towards excellence. The Pixar films were by and large, awesome. Great stories told well. If this same mindset is applied to Star Wars, the possibilities are great. And, I don't know what the actual contract said, but knowing how much of a control freak the Disney Empire is, I can't see Lucas having any say in anything they put out.
To borrow the title of Episode IV, there is "A New Hope."
