I don't know what's going on either.  Around the corner from my house it's $2.97 (at and Exxon no less).  5 miles down the road it's $3.25.  Closer to work it's over $3.34.

If I wasn't so lazy, I'd do a search for something like "20 year trending gas prices" with a focus on dips prior to Presidential elections.

Couple refineries in New Joisey shut down because of that little squall that blew threw earlier.

Always an excuse to hike the prices.  I don't get no New Joisey gas in Cheeseland, but somehow the price will go up here...

Excuse?  Confused.  It's economics.  If you think it's too high, buy it somewhere else.  If all suppliers are too high, then your answer is one of two things:
1. It's a collusion/conspiracy of many companies, each of which is acting contrary to an actual incentive to undercut its competitors
2. The price is actually economically driven, and not an excuse.

Your choice, tin foil hat, or logic.

No tin foil here, B-Man.

Just like the whole reformulated gas thing in the PRK.

We certainly don't burn it here in the Snow Belt, but it can still make prices of our non-reformulated fuel vary when there's a hiccup out there on the Left Coast.

And last year we exported more gasoline than we imported, with an excess of refining capacity.  Go figure...

Reformulated gasoline is mandated in SE WI because an EPA sensor in the bottom SE corner of Kenosha county picks up the pollution from Gary Indiana and Chicago, so about 1/2 of the state's population is saddled with using this junk.

I would imagine that some of the transportation capacity to outstate is being used up by whatever means the reformulated junk is piped in, sending prices upward.

I was able to find gas at $4.099 a gallon, and that's cheap out here.

I bought gases for 2.99 today. Why dat is?

It was the low ebb of the gas prices - it made me all silly.

Still dropping here in Texas! $2.95
Of course, lower demand could be a sign of a stagnating economy.

I'm pretty sure that's racist. If you just listened to the Obama, you would know that the economy is recovering. Now, give Obama 4 more years, and gas will be free.

Free Fuel Fiasco! Who could have predicted that giving away a desperately desired commodity might turn into a big mess? It's almost like prices have a purpose or something.  :O

It dropped to $2.989 around here then jumper to $3.049. I only buy gas for my vehicles about every 2-3 weeks or so and when I fill up my company van I don't really pay any attention to the prices. There's only a few options for me to use overnight so it doesn't matter too much anyway.

Here in the Seattle area, prices have dropped 40-50 cents per gallon in the past week.  The local Safeway is now at $ 3.51 for unleaded.
