Cutting up a turkey

Wife and I are planning on staying home for Turkey Day this year.  I have a frozen turkey in the deep freeze, but that's way too much meat for us.  I would buy a roasting chicken (and still might) but I have that big turkey in the freezer already and it's been there for 2 years.

I have partially thawed a turkey before and cut it up like a frying chicken and refroze it in 4 or 5 packages.  That works OK...

How about cutting the turkey in half lengthwise with a handsaw while it's still frozen solid?  Cook half and rewrap the other half to cook later.  I would aim for cutting it down the breastbone and the backbone.

It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

And if you don't have that, hack saw, but make sure it stays frozen.

I don't have a bandsaw, so I'm planning to do the same thing with a fine-tooth carpenters saw.

Detcord or a chainsaw will waste too much meat.  Even if it is turkey.

This. It's been in the freezer for two years already. Cook the whole thing. Eat what ever you eat, debone the rest, freeze the leftovers in serving size packages and make stock out of the bones and you can freeze that too.

Better with a hacksaw.  Bone is hard and will catch teeth in even a finish saw.  Use a medium tooth hacksaw.

That being said, get a 12" "the torch" 14-TPI Milwaukee sawzall blade and go to town with a recip saw.  Will take a couple of minutes.

Then, since you obviously will be full of man-energy at that point, go cut a car in half. :)

I have twice had frozen turkeys sawn in half by market butchers.  One zipped through it without regard to the wire leg clip, saying he spent the extra $$ on the blade for that purpose.  The other left a few inches for my hack saw to protect his blade.  One charged $3, the other did it for free.

Ask around.

While this is clearly the most rational and logical way to handle the bird (I'm very impressed Jim), it would negate his obvious desire to wield some form of cutting implement on it, thus depriving him of his fun.
