240v power strip question
« on: December 26, 2012, 02:23:14 PM »
Im traveling to Israel tomorrow, and the have 240v power.  I have what I believe to be the correct adapter to allow me to plug my iPad charger into a receptacle, and I see that the charger can accept 240v.  I got to wondering if I could take a standard 6-outlet power strip(not a surge protector), and simply put the adapter on it.  This would allow me to charge iPads and camera batteries at he same time.  The packaging on these strips doesn't specify allowable voltages.  Got any ideas?

<<<---Not an electrician.

I wouldn't.  If you have an adapter use that.  I remember in Germany they had 220v50hz.  Even with transformers things didn't work quite right.  (Especially clocks).
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

You will burn up your strip.

You should be able to find a voltage rating on the powerstrip itself. Generally they are rated for 250V but unless it actually says that somewhere on the strip I wouldn't try it. ;)

You could just put the adapter on the strip and plug it into the goofy outlet.
As long as everything you plug into the strip has a multi voltage power supply you should be good. (100/120-240v)
The surge suppressor part won't care. I would just be leery of one that has a light on it.
Maybe just take a 3 way adapter instead.

Just noticed that a mod changed my signature. How long ago was that?
