Look at the interesting breakdown of governmental costs incurred by gunshot wounds.  Court costs are almost three times the medical costs.  I would be pretty confident in saying that the majority of the victims here are the gangbangers and their victims, most of whom do not have a Blue Cross card in their wallet.

It is much easier to demonize gun owners in flyover country.

Chicago's 20-year study showed that about 3/4 of murders were committed by repeat offenders, and roughly 2/3 of the victims were themselves convicted criminals. Things hit the proverbial fan when someone noticed there was a demographic breakdown included in the study, and over 90% of the offenders were from two specific ethnic groups known for gangs involved with the narcotics trade.
