Why can't I see the reticle?
« on: March 16, 2013, 02:21:49 PM »
Is it because my reflex sight is on backwards?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2294225/SWAT-officer-attracts-ridicule-s-pictured-rifle-sight-backwards.html

I feel so much safer knowing guys like this are on the SWAT team.

Only the Military and Police are professional enough to have "Assault Weapons". ;/
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.

Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,

A thought also occured to me that someone threw some optics at them to install real quick so they look cooler in the photos and on TV.  That might be a stretch.

On the second photo further down, does that guy some this big piece mounted in front of the EOTech effectively blocking the view?  I could just be something mounted off to the side.

That's a PEQ-2A IR laser/Iluminator, and they're low enough that he can see over it.  It might just encroach at the bottom of the Eotech's window.  Either way, the Eotech is one of those both eyes open devices, so you can completely block the window from the front, and still see both the reticle and the target. (Don't, but you can)

Umm, yes, but ....

The peq-2a looks like this http://www.opticsplanet.com/insight-technology-an-peq-2a-infrared-aiming-laser-itp-500c-a2.html and, as you mention, it is mounted kinda-sorta under the Eotech.

Howsome-ever, a careful examination of the picture (by actually looking at it) indicates that the Eotech is pointing back at the ossifer's shoulder, and the peq-2a underneath is also pointing back at the ossifer's shoulder.

Now, this is just a would guess, but that might be the cause of all the hilarity and bashing going on.  What do you think - possible?

Skid,

Important part of Mech's post that I quoted:

;)

It goes without saying that the SWAT officer in the top photo is an idjit.

To make it worse, I think his rear BUIS is a model that won't regulate AT ALL with a standard A2 sight tower. It's only meant to work with it's front BUIS counterpart.

And who uses a surefire x300 as a rifle light?  I mean, I have a TLR-2 laser/light on my baby AR, but that's because normal lights were too big.

OK, fine.

Which side is the "front"?

Had a 2800 MOS E-6 ask that question when he came out to the berm to watch us set night defenses.

Do you have any idea how hard it was to not insert the blasting cap and then let him go set one out there, claymore in one hand and clacker in the other?

I still wonder if the guy never used the EOTech, but just thru it on to look cooler.  I guess that is really no better.

I think he was making fun of that meme, which as far as I can tell is based off of anecdotal evidence/stories, and the fact you can't leave an EOTech on for three years straight or whatever like you can an Aimpoint.
