Yeah... "Only 300 left in the wild!!11!1!" really interested me, because ANY animal with that few numbers would be on National Geographic or Discovery channel.
So, I went to almighty Wiki and found that the range is basically all of northern Canada, Alaska, and Siberia.
Hmmm... following the numbers up... Oh hey! There are less than 300 wolverines! (in Sweden) Actually, no, it's less than 200 wolverines! (In Norway or Finland).
No no! There are only 3 wolverines left! (In California).
Oh, but in Canada and Russia, where the VAST majority of their range is? I think it's less than 20,000!!! This is obviously a disaster of epic proportions. I mean, a predator species that requires a large range and does not share territory, MUST have once numbered in the 100,000s. Right?
Or, as I suspected, the "Center for Biological Diversity" was making crap up.
