Question for wives/girlfriends who carry concealed.
« on: July 16, 2013, 01:35:24 PM »
This is in reference to IWB, concealed holsters only. I know there are other options for women, but at the moment, I'm working on this specific holster.
Where does she carry it? Appendix, hip, or 4:00? Doesn't matter if she's left or right handed, what kind of gun, etc. Just need to know which position is most common/preferred.

Also, if any of the women in your lives would be interested in participating in a questionnaire and/or questions like this from time to time, please pm me an email address or I'll give you mine, or have them touch base with me on FB. I could really use the input of women who actually own/use guns on occasion.

And of course, I want to hear from the women of APS too!

Thanks!

It depends....

Which gun am I carrying? What activity am I doing? And what am I wearing?

Of late, I have been preferring the little .380 over my XD .45. Generally, I like to carry IWB just between appendix and hip. It seems to work well with my build/clothes/activity and hauling kids around. If I have to pick a specific category, appendix is my favorite. It's secure but out of reach of my kids.

I would be interested in these surveys - and the results. PM incoming.

My wife hasn't been able to find an IWB solution that works well for her. If you PM me your email I'll see if she'd like to get in touch with you, she's constantly frustrated trying to find a good way to EDC.

The "Ava" by looper leather seems to be well reviewed

We were gonna try it, but our friend is about to have some more options

The only IWB my wife has found to work is a quality Galco Belly Band at 3:30 to 4:00.

If them women would just stay at home, where they belong, they wouldn't need no CC-Dubya.

My wife hasn't been able to find a good waist carry solution either.  Appendix or SOB are the only one's she'll leave the house with, but that's pretty rare. Mostly she either purse carries, or relies on me to have one.

I'll send them to you, in a cardboard box, regular mail. There are several dishes in eastern cultures that are served after a lengthy aging process, so I'm sure they'll be fine. But if you could drop that check in the mail before you actually eat them, that would be great. Just in case, you know.

Sometimes purse carry is the only option. What does she dislike about waist carry?

Uncomfortable, doesn't fit with her wardrobe, the usual.

Mrs Mush does carry, but her personal cost benefit equation on discomfort is different then many of us.

At least while I'm home. She's sleeping with her M&P45 and an AR right now.

You've reviewed faliaphotography, fateofdestinee, and limalife's youtube channels, right?

Those ladies have multiple vids up on holster tests and why they carry where they carry and in what. All are approachable via youtube messaging.

My lady friend carries in a shoulder holster around the house and homestead. She's not much of a purse type, so it's usually in a holster in a jacket pocket. She's fond of old Army jackets for that reason.

We should probably explore more options together. I need more holsters too...

Many people in healthcare, such as Rooster's wife, have found that a belly band conceals very well underneath a set of scrubs.  Don't ask me how I know this.

Thanks for your comments and input everyone! It does help.

I met with the guy who's going to do the sewing for my prototypes and he's agreed to move forward with it. Have vendors sending me samples of various materials so I can narrow that down, then once my order is placed and arrived, prototypes should be just a week out!

It's getting there!!

Spoon currently carries a Kimber Compact at roughly 4 o'clock in a Milt Sparks VM2

But I'm certain she would be willing to test anything you come up with

Asked mom-in-law about it: she's willing to act as a test sucject f you could use one "short, round, and mouthy"

Ask Rev or Bedlamite: the description fits (and are HER words)

From the women I know who carry, the only ones who carry on body opt for appendix carry of small pistols like the Ruger LCP. Otherwise it's pursed, left in vehicle, or husband/bf is tasked to provide cover fire.
