Back home... What to carry?
« on: August 03, 2013, 11:40:44 AM »
I was visiting family when Alabama's "No, we really mean it" open carry law came into effect.  I must go run some errands, and I'm trying to go gaudy (6" 629), or cosmopolitan (G19).  I'm pretty sure my open carry rig will eventually be a k-frame .357 or a Glock 9mm of some flavor, but I want to make a statement.

Suggest away, ya got about 20m, or come back here for an AAR.

Hmmmm, got no subguns, SBR's, or other such rifle-caliber handguns.  I think I will go for the 629, but the 3-inch.  Check back...

Double-check that the law doesn't specify handguns.  The original CCW cards here in my county just said "Concealed Weapons Permit" and some folks decided that meant brass knuckles, saps, switchblades, and all manner of weaponly things.  But the law itself only specified handguns.  Later permit cards corrected that problem and now read "Concealed Handgun Permit."

WHATEVER YOUR DEFINITION OF "INFRINGE " IS, YOU SHOULDN'T BE DOING IT.

The 629 w/ black Hogue monogrip got absolutely no second glance.  Black thumbreak Don Hume on a black belt, jeans and a muted olive/brown Zombiehunters tee shirt.  I really think not one in ten actually registered it being there.  Just to satisfy my curiosity, I rolled slowly by the front door of the Academy on the way back from Sam's Club.  No signs indicating I was not welcome.

Life is good.

Okay, finally got a look (first one I've noticed), while gassing up the little motorcycle, which probably drew the attention to start with.  Same shorty 629 rig as before.  Damned hot, station only 3/4 mile away, so I went with helmet and gloves, no jacket for cover.

I think I'm about done with the AAR's, unless something comes up.  Going to the G19 in a black pancake.  Should be a non-issue.

They always assume I'm a cop of some kind when they do see it.
I've been growing my hair out too, but no dice, they still think I'm a cop.
Dang, I can't stand that. I mean it would be cool to actually be a cop, but it'll never happen.
