Need Help Tracing My Dad's Army Unit
« on: August 20, 2006, 09:27:05 AM »
Can anyone direct me to a site that gives the organization of the US Ninth Army in World War II? My father served in the 567th Ordnance Heavy Maintenance Company, which was part of the Ninth. I've found nothing online about that company, but if I know which divisions made up the Ninth maybe it will give me another lead.

Thanks.

If you send me his name and where he enlisted, I can probably find you some info.

I'd also check the National Archives.

You MAY be able to get his service record. However I understand a fair portion of them were lost in a fire. I think Barbara was telling me this?

I have the same problem with my uncle, I can find a lot of stuff that was around his didvision but nothing at all about his particular brigade. Similar brigades but not his.

Thanks for all your help, Barbara; that 9th Army TO is just what I was looking for.

I also learned of a book: Conquer: The Story Of The Ninth Army that looks like interesting reading.

Check the following sites, look for unit histories and other materials:

US Army Military History Institute
http://www.carlisle.army.mil/usamhi/

US Army Center of Military History
http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/

There is a huge series of books, titled _The US Army In World War II_, which has a good deal of detail.  Many libraries have this series, it might be worth looking at for a really big picture view.
