Any good hunting forums?
« on: August 21, 2013, 01:19:08 PM »
I know most of the gun forums have hunting sub-sections, but can anyone recommend a good general purpose hunting site?

I no longer respect any of you. I hope the following offends you as much as this thread has offended me:

www.24hourcampfire.com is about the only one I bother with.  Very low BS level there.

I don't recall where you are located, but, if in the PNW, this one may interest you. Having some local or regional input is always good.

I would try to find something related to your local. Many hunting forums are like gun forms, a lot of idiots and immature blowhards with a keyboard.

Also what are you wanting to know more about specifically?

Agree that local/regional are the best to go to. They usually have good subforums with tips on where to hunt locally and hunt condition reports. Haven't been to it in a while, but I used to spend a good bit of time on Jesse's Hunting Forum. It was great for getting info before and during hunting season for stuff I hunt on public land. Hunters on the more local forums are generally more friendly in regards to giving out info on exactly where to hunt, versus, "go to the national forest".

Some local conditions/locations kind of stuff. Also general info on hunting black bear, and especially how to field dress and butcher one after shooting it. If I go out and don't get anything then oh well. But if I get an animal and then lose the meat because I didn't know how to properly care for it that would be terrible.

You may want to get a couple books on Black Bear, I have a couple that are pretty good. I've been wanting to hunt bear for years, just haven't had enough preference points to draw a tag or the money+time to hunt in Canada. That being said, I should draw a tag next year with 8 points (means I have waited 8 years to draw a non resident tag for WI)

Spot/stalk, bait and dogs aren't legal here.

Can you use attractant baits, like spraying stumps with molasses?

Hmmm, good question. I don't know, have to look that up.

Pretty sure that qualifies as baiting.  Since it is, as you said, bait.

You can certainly hunt over wild apple trees, termite filled logs, and streams with salmon spawning since that is all natural.  But anything placed by a human is verboten.

Yes, you are correct, I checked the G&F website for Washington
