Dear sweet fluffy $deity, that's scary.

Here he is on SPOT!

As of my OP, he's about to cruise over Newfoundland.

I've been on a conventional hot air balloon ride.  The strength of the attachment system to secure the basket to the balloon is impressive.  I don't see how one could have the same degree of security when rigging to a couple dozen independent balloons.

Freedom is a heavy load, a great and strange burden for the spirit to undertake. It is not easy. It is not a gift given, but a choice made, and the choice may be a hard one. The road goes upward toward the light; but the laden traveller may never reach the end of it.  - Ursula Le Guin

Hope his gondola floats.
In thy presence is fulness of joy.
At thy right hand pleasures for evermore.

I hope he's using non-permeable to helium balloons.  Otherwise his flight might not last more than 24 hours, if my experiences with the various balloons that the kids brought home from fairs and like are anything to go by.

Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

I expect there will also be a lot of altitude fluctuation between day and night.

That's the first thing I thought of, but assumed they must be mylar balloons.  Dld not pursue it further.  Helium leaks.  Through almost everything.  That's why they use it in leak detecting equipment.
