Firearms Purchases During Shutdown
« on: October 06, 2013, 09:48:58 PM »
Anyone purchased a new firearm since the 1st from a dealer and needed to go through the NCIS?  If so was it up and running?

Surprised the Obama hasn't targeted this as non-essential.

Isn't a unanswered nics inquiry automatically approved if not answered in x days?
I remember reading that somewhere.
I needed a mod to change my signature because the concept of "family friendly" eludes me.
Just noticed that a mod changed my signature. How long ago was that?

3 days but I could see this administration shutting it down so you can't even request one to be done.

The NCIS system is critical to a whole bunch of things, many of them law enforcement checks on suspects etc. and the firearm purchaser BGC's are only a piece of the system, so it stays up and running.
I promise not to duck.

I do not know about "unanswered" but if an NICS inquiry is not returned as DENIED then it is the seller's discretion. This is why if you are "delayed" most FFLs will release the gun to you in a few days if they do not get a call back as "denied".

Are you kidding me?

That's awful.

www.amberalert.gov auto-redirects to the page lupinus linked. Apparently they shut down a bunch of sites "due to lack of funding", redirecting them all to the "Unavailable" page.

But fedgov has money to rent forklifts and barricades to lock down open-air memorials, threaten veterans with arrest for peacefully visiting same, and to try to SHUT DOWN THE FREAKING ATLANTIC OCEAN!

Just to be clear it's NICS. NCIS is the Naval Criminal Investigative Service....you know, with the bad TV show.

They have some folks furloughed as well. My NCIS buddy used the time to drink whiskey and assemble an AR15.

I'm not seeing a unavailable page,  I click on current amber alerts and it shows none at this time, but nothing unavailable.

NICS will be running. BATFE sent out several emails informing us that it would remain if there was a shutdown.

There was a headline on Drudge I think that said the Amber Alert system was down, but one of Michelle Obama's useless sites was still up.  I guess someone decided they didn't like bad press.

I was also going to say I bought a gun, but no phone call was required.

Bought a gun last night, it was probably the fastest transaction I've had to date.

Mine, too. Took more time to give my information to the Feebs than to get the "Go ahead" from them. Maybe 3 minutes end-to-end.
