Quote
There was much furor this past week about a case in which police officers became suspicious that a man they’d stopped had stuffed drugs up his rectum. So, they got a warrant which led to a medical search that began with a cavity search and progressed to X-ray, multiple enemas, and finally a colonoscopy (all in a hospital environment). Turned out he didn’t have any drugs after all.  Across the country, cries of jack-booted thuggery were excreted, and the involved officers (and medicos) became the butt of many inflamed and flatulent complaints. Many wanted to see the officers jammed up.

Let the punishment fit the crime.

One hopes this will all work out in the end.

I'm sure everything will eventually come out...

I'm straining to figure out where this will end.

stay safe.
If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

Ever notice that cops always stick for other cops.  No matter how bad the behavior, cops will always be "but" monkeys.

He is getting lambasted over there.
And yet he is not backing off and is taking any criticism as criticism against all cops.  He is going out of his way to invent reasons why these cops could legitimately do this stuff instead of simply admitting they went too far.  It is kind of pathetic.
Quote
“observer,” if you think police officers “concern for the victim is laughable,” I’m afraid it’s you understanding of the responsibility of public safety officials and emergency personnel that’s laughable.
This came out of apologist remarks that the officers did all that stuff in concern for the victims safety as it is dangerous to walk around with drugs up your butt.  "Pathetic" is a very valid description.

As well he should.

I can understand "wait for both sides of the story", but he's defending the indefensible here.

Or Ayooob is giving the cops and the city unsolicited legal advice -- how to set up a plausible explanation that the abuse and torture was in the victim's best interest.  They were only concerned about his safety  [barf]

Mas tries to take the middle ground in things, and not weigh in until all facts are known... which is why he's a useful expert witness. He figures, maybe the guy claiming all this stuff is lying/exaggerating, maybe there were extenuating circumstances.

Whatever else Ayoob may or may not be, he is part of the "The Thin Blue Line".
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

I do sympathize that police deal with liars, scammers, and scum constantly, and this can color their thoughts, perceptions, and actions.

However, our system of justice is predicated on the idea that it must avoid prosecution of the innocent at all costs, up to and including allowing the guilty to go free. For "government" in all it's myriad forms has killed, enslaved, and harmed orders of magnitude more people than "crime" ever has.

I'm just trying to understand how the lack of any evidence found by the first x-ray and finger probe validates any further invasive procedure in Ayoob's eyes....

....it appears Mas is having his Metcalf Moment sooner than I expected....

Impressed yet befogged, they grasped at his vivid leading phrases, seeing only their surface meaning, and missing the deeper current of his thought.

This...but I get the feeling that our justice system is getting warped.  I think Mas should have kept quiet like he did for the Zimmerman trial.  I want to hear what comes out at the trial as we currently are only getting one side and everybody deserves their day in court both good and bad.
