Interesting. Was she running or helping run an actual illegal gambling facility, or was it "We thought it was legit" ?
Pretty well known, video gambling machines have been banned in SC for a long time and they've also been in the news a
lot as the state police are hitting hard on them lately. You'd have a damn hard time convincing me that her or whoever ran it with her thought it was legit to have them.
She may be the sweetest old lady ever, and I'm certainly not defending three shitbags that would ambush an elderly woman outside her home. They should get their trial and a prompt bullet to the head behind the courthouse afterwards. But running illegal gambling, and being known to carry around the proceeds in the wee hours of the morning to a predicable location like your house, doesn't exactly do wonders for your life expectancy. She was also robbed and beaten outside her home under very similar circumstances not to long ago, likely the same reason.
Something tells me with how fast after her death they had the machines in hand and released the info that the police knew about it and that had this not happened she'd have probably made the news as one of SLEDs latest gambling busts.
