I don't know how common, but I knew of an IH cabover with Al frame.  It was made in the 1970s or maybe 1960s.

I'm talking current production Kenworths and Peterbilts.

Steel frame, aluminum body with a steel cargo box, 750 pounds lighter than the current 150 (so it should have a higher cargo and tow capacity and it should get close to 30 mpg on the highway?  If all that is true I'll take one.  As far as corrosion?  put a sacrificial zinc on it.

Aluminium in cars and trucks has a lot of potential. I foresee the big 3 fraking it up beyond belief.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

Nothing really wrong with aluminum vehicle construction - if properly done.

Grumman did a ton of their aluminum KurbSide delivery van bodies back in the day.  I see them on the road to this day, and actually wanted one as a campermobile.

The brown UPS truck bodies are also aluminum.  How many miles have those logged?

That's interesting. I didn't know it was so prevalent in military vehicles. On the boat, we have a 62' aluminum cat at work, and have actually had some problems with the hull, mostly at the welds I think (I'm not one of our boat guys). We've actually had to limit it to 6' swell or less.

Bless the women and children who firm our hands.

Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
