VERY compact scope, not red dot
« on: January 24, 2014, 09:46:06 AM »
i was just wondering if anyone makes a small scope package, say 4" in length, that doesn't require a battery for the reticle (although i would say that a battery for a lighted reticle is okay, as long as it can be used without.).  a red dot sized package without the batteries, of any magnification.  i would also be curious of the quality of the optics if you have first hand experience.  otherwise, what's the smallest scope you know of.

I love mine.  No batteries, nice pretty green reticle.  Working on keeping two eyes open for sub-100 yard targets to maintain peripheral awareness.

The JP sets the small point of the scale

By scope I assume you want magnification?

That's a Trijicon (RX06?), though Meprolight also make a reflex sight similar to the 42mm Trijicon RX30.

Love my Trijicon RX30 reflex (big brother of sight above). Every now and then a used model is available for cheap.

According to the ad copy, batteries and the illumination module are removable, the 'scope will work without them.

The primary arms model works without being turned on, but you can turn it on to illuminate the reticle.  Batteries useful but not necessary.

Russian PK-AS is a nice unit- they used to be inexpensive but I can't find them anymore- came in both sidemount and weaver mount versions, the Rakur is similar but about 600 now.

Weaver.

that's one of the difficulties I have with choosing a scope.  i would like to find the model that has been in regular use for 20 years and still functions flawlessly.  the problem is that they don't seem to make the same model for more than a year or two anymore.

thanks for the suggestions!
