Unedited footage of the bombing of Nagasaki

I needed a mod to change my signature because the concept of "family friendly" eludes me.
Just noticed that a mod changed my signature. How long ago was that?

Dropping that thing and killing 70,000+ people instantly had to weigh on the mind of the pilot and crew.

I did note that the guys doing the paint work were not wearing any kind of PPE.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

I don't think they had any idea how many people were killed at that moment.   Those guys were all veteran pilots who had been in the service since before the war began.

They were very willing to do anything to end it.

As a nineteen year old in 1970, I spent most of a day in Nagasaki, alone, wandering the site and museum.  It was a tough day.

The bombing of Hiroshima has never much bothered me.  I have always wondered whether the follow up at Nagasaki was needed or justified.
Gee, I'd love to see your data!

. . . I have always wondered whether the follow up at Nagasaki was needed or justified.
Note that the Japs didn't surrender after 1 bomb, they didn't surrender after the USSR declared war, they only surrendered after the SECOND bomb was dropped, and even then, it took direct action by their emperor who ORDERED a surrender.

And . . . parts of the Jap military seriously contemplated the unthinkable - deposing their emperor in order to keep fighting. Their plot might have succeeded except that another conventional bombing attack - sometimes called The Last Raid - disrupted their plans. (IIRC, there was a documentary made on this last raid - maybe on The History Channel?)

well, the Japanese were still not surrendering after Hiroshima..............  Some times you have to slap folks twice.  I always keep in mind, that the Japanese started the war, and forced it upon us.  That they got harmed in the process, is their own fault.

Reading an interesting book entitled Operation Snow about how the Soviet Agents in FDR's administration manipulated events per their Soviet handler's requests to instigate a war between Japan and the US because Stalin feared a two front war.
