Shot my first round of trap today
« on: February 16, 2014, 03:46:35 PM »
Joined the local trap and skeet club today.  I'm also going to be taking my little brother along for a lot of practice.  Don't know if I'll join a league or anything, but the practice will be great.

It was very humbling.  I quit counting, but my guess is I got like 7...  those clays are moving fast!

Trap, Skeet = Hoot!

You forgot sporting clays.

I try to avoid shooting trap.  While I am not all that good, it's a lot of fun and I would no doubt get hooked.  I just don't need another hobby.
Good on you for trying it out.  Have fun!   =)

Trap, Skeet, Five-stand and Sporting Clays.  All humbling games for beginners.  Just go to have fun and remember the original intent of those games was to give bird hunters practice.  ;)

I'm so ready for the snow to go away.  I really would rather shoot trap and sporting clays in something other than 3 feet of! snow

You haven't shot trap and/or skeet til you done it with a Judge.
There are five things, above all else, that make life worth living: a good relationship with God, a good woman, good health, good friends, and a good cigar.

Or shot a judge like Cheney

It was bad...  good thing it was just open practice :).

First thing I'm going to do different is put the inertia driven Win SXP pump away, and get out the OU with extractors.  Chasing hulls will get really old on the firing line.

Down at son's gf family farm and we were shooting trap and decided to see if we could do so with a Judge.  Actually hit more than not with it.

Sure, with a spread like that out of a short rifled barrel, you're bound to connect with at least one pellet.

Kust jidding.

Tried aerial shooting hand-tossed tin cans with those CCI .38/.357 shot shells.  Almost every shot made a "tink" and moved the can slightly out of its trajectory.  Could not dupe that with solid shot.  (All safe, up in the mountings and land of much land.)

Most interesting round of trap I ever watched was a quiet guy busting every single one with a .410 that turned out to be full choke.

I really want to find a safe place to see him do that with a .22lr.

Worst round of trap I ever shot was a 3 . . . friend of mine had just starting loading shotshells, and this was at the now-defunct Lincoln Park Gun Club in Chicago, where plastic wads were forbidden. Plus, I was using a Savage double.

Patterning later showed 20% patterns, so I was essentially shooting a "spreader" load; I was lucky to get 3.

My employer had a trap and skeet club with its own range, and I shot in the league there for a number of years - took High Gun a couple of times in Trap (Big fish small pond? Actually, more like minnow in a puddle.  ;) ) but was inconsistent in skeet. Lots of fun.

Shot two rounds of trap during a single range visit.  Trap score much higher than skeet score.  Love five-stand, could learn to love sporting clays.

Still a terrible wing shot.

I shoot 22/25 consistently with trap. Never shot skeet and I'm lucky if I can break 40/100 in sporting clays. Take me upland or waterfowl hunting and I shoot 9/10 birds consistently. Actually I don't think I missed at all last season.

Maybe a rectangle.

If I'm shootin' it I'm eatin' it or wearing it's skin.
And a "Round" of skeet. Is that like a covey of quail or a school of fish (or a congress of baboons)?

I was thinking a square of trap was a 100 targets (4 rounds of 25) or a person who breaks 100/100.

I see Brad was being a wisenheimer.
