We're a heavily D state, but this (like the suppressor bill a year or two ago) is relatively non-controversial. And we have enough blue dogs and centrists who like guns that they generally don't push too hard. For now anyway.

Iowa may legalize suppressors this year, maybe.

Bill was pulled to the floor last minute, and passed the House 95-3! Now on to the governor, and given how overwhelmingly it passed hard to imagine it doesn't get signed. We're getting SBR's in WA!  =D

I'll stick with my pistol with a Sig brace. Can't have loaded long guns in cars in WA.  =D I am tempted to get a suppressor or two, but I just can't justify inviting the man into my life in that fashion. Giving f-troop the right to search my house is just a no go.

Wouldn't you still have to invite the man for the SBR'd pistol? Still be covered under the NFA.  Back to state law; by then making it technically a rifle are you not afoul of the no loaded long guns?

ARRRRGGGHH!!!!!!

How is this *expletive deleted*it still floating around the web?  Owning an NFA firearm either individually or with a trust DOES NOT give the ATF the right to enter or search your house without a warrant.  The most they can do is compel you to show them the paperwork and tax stamp.  And they have to wait on the porch while you get that.

The whole "inspection at any time" thing only applies to FFL holders and SOT's.  Simply owning a registered weapon doesn't  cut it.

Do or do not get into the NFA as you like, but don't skip it out of fear that agents will be stopping by to look at your stuff.  That's pure internet BS.

I'd recommend a Krinkov.

That was my point. I'm not SBRing it, just leaving it as a pistol with a sig brace.

Ah ok, I forgot that the Sig brace that looks and functions like a stock isn't a stock.

Wink, wink, nudge, nudge!

(I expect that to get caught by the Tech Branch like the Akins Accelerator did eventually...)

Sig brace was approved by tech branch. Akins submitted and had approved a different device than the one he actually sold. Totally different circumstances.

Yeah, I know it got approved but after enough people post youtube videos using it as a stock I expect some sort of selective persecution.

Law says "designed and intended" not actually used. Can't predict the future it I do t see ATF making a deal out of it, any more than they have people shouldering the buffer tube.

Those are my thoughts, too.

"Intent" is rather weak.

I wish I could own all the cool toys tax free, but my experience owning an AR pistol convinced me there is no faster way to find every idiot who thinks they know the law to come up and tell you how illegal you are. My worry was that some Dudley Doright would call me in to someone and by the time I explained my way out of pretty bracelets I'd be broke with my life ruined. I've seen one fun range owner get all agressive about calling the cops when a sear failure in a USPSA open pistol made it into an unscheduled MG.

"Intent" is rather weak.

Given the many years and thousands of videos of people shouldering a foam covered buffer tube (or one with a cane tip on it etc) I seriously doubt that will happen. Of course it is the BATFE so they can always just make something up. But it seems unlikely that this will be it.

The ATF tech branch is notorious for reversing themselves over time.

French, I know that of which you speak.

I seldom take my papered Krinkov out to the rifle range anymore if I know other folks are going to be there.

"Dude, that's illegal!"  "OMG, you can't be out here with that!"

If I do take it, my paperwork accompanies me ready to retrieve - then instead of having fun shooting, I get to educate somebody on NFA SBR rules and why the gun's not illegal.

Nobody ever warned me about those people back in the day.  Too bad, because it used to be one of my favorite 100 yard swinging steel target rifles.  Now I just use the SLR-95 for that task.

That is a risk. But let's face it, if they really want to push it everyone who owns a self loader and rubber bands / shoelaces / paper clips etc has unregistered machine guns.
