Thing 2 found a huge shed antler
« on: February 28, 2014, 12:06:53 AM »
I wish I could find a shed antler this nice!  It was in our front yard, and SWMBO said it was still bloody at the stump end.  Thing 2 found it while letting the dog out to do her business.  I told the kids that whoever finds the other one gets $5.

Elk?

Nice trophy for the kiddo.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

Oh yeah, definitely elk.  7 points (that little nubbin of a point down by G1 and G2 is a legal point since it's over 1").

Awesome! You should make a mount for it and put it on his bedroom wall.

holy moly!

Still no luck with finding the other antler.  At this point I rather doubt we'll ever find it.

Awesome! You should make a mount for it and put it on his bedroom wall.

Part of the plan.  He was thinking he was going to give it to me, but I said "Nope, finders keepers, it's yours."

Awesome find for the kids.

I'm pretty sure I've seen that bull this antler came off.  I'd peg him at ~1000lbs.  Too bad the GMU I live in is special permit only for elk hunting.  in 2012 there were 673 applicants for 5 modern firearm tags.

Great find!  Hope you get the other one.

Hadda chuckle when I saw the oversized jeans on him.  Yep.  Hadda be a younger brother, thus definitely Thing 2.

Been there myself.  Jes' good frugal housekeeping, but amusing to see that.

Those of you who had older brothers should understand.

Cougars have been seen by other neighbors following the elk herd.  Bears also are known be in the area.  Not a huge threat to to the elk but there are coyotes around.  No wolves, yet.

His older sibling is a sister.  But, the kid is sooo skinny that jeans are either seriously high water if the fit the waist, or way big in the waist if they fit the inseam.  If he's not wearing a belt they'll fall down like that.

But we also get given clothes by friends/family with slightly older kids, so it is possible they are such hand-me-downs.  We give clothes to friends/family with youger kids too, once our youngest of the same gender as their kid has out grown something.
