Why is APS so slow to load?
« on: April 25, 2014, 10:51:56 AM »
This began "recently," but I can't pin it down any closer than that. Maybe a week ago? Ten days?

When I first click my bookmark for APS to come here after being elsewhere on the Internet, I have to wait a LOOOOOOONG time before the APS index page loads. Once that's up, navigating back and forth to the various discussion areas and reading individual threads seems to run normally. But the initial load time takes forever (figuratively). Objectively, I timed it last night at just under a full minute, and just now it took 45 seconds before APS loaded.

What's going on?

I haven't noticed any lags at APS that can't be attributed to overall network/local PC slowness.

There's likely a problem at your end. It loads pretty much instantly for me.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

I was having a lot of problems yesterday with sites loading slow and not even being found.  Cleared the cookies out and now seem to be running just fine .... ?

The overhead burden of an invisible knapsack full of white privilege trying to squeeze through the intertubes.  Change your web browser background from white to something else and your pages will load faster.

Wrong. It's all those complicated passwords. So complicated.

Have you changed the battery?  Did you reboot?  Maybe a little lube in the lock?
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.
