mysterious Vietnam war memorial
« on: May 03, 2014, 08:30:12 AM »
http://www.military.com/video/operations-and-strategy/vietnam-war/vietnam-memorial-on-remote-trail/2805626482001/

Quite moving, and apparently known to some based on all the momentos left there.

Nice rumor about the how and why of it being there is linked from the military.com page.

Apparently someone is trying to make sure that "Lest we forget" does not happen.

To whoever did it: Thank you,

stay safe.
If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

Hope it stays just the way it is.
There are five things, above all else, that make life worth living: a good relationship with God, a good woman, good health, good friends, and a good cigar.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

Very moving.
Personally, I do not understand how a bunch of people demanding a bigger govt can call themselves anarchist.
I meet lots of folks like this, claim to be anarchist but really they're just liberals with pierced genitals. - gunsmith

"Ai bao Troi khong co mat?", Vietnamese Proverb I Google-translated this and got "Who sky is not present?" or "Who can not face sky" (slightly different spelling of "bao"... What are we missing? Any better translation out there?

Sounds like a proverb talking about how everyone dies... we all end up facing the sky.

Is it customary to leave cartridges at war memorials?

There are cartridges and what appear to be challenge coins.

I leave a PBR, pack of Marlboro Reds, & book of matches when I visit memorials.  When I checked with NPS, they stated they had several sets of such that were collected from The Wall.  (They collect and save everything that is left there - even floral displays although most of those get photographed and cataloged.)

stay safe.

The regular money means something also.

Penny- I went through basic/AIT with him.
Nickel - We were in the same Division/Battalion.
Dime - We served together in the same platoon/company.
Quarter - I was with him when he was killed.
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.
