Hawkmoon - Never underestimate another person's capacity for stupidity. Any time you think someone can't possibly be that dumb ... they'll prove you wrong.
Viking - The problem with the modern world is that there aren't really any predators eating stupid people.
I was always pleasant, friendly and within arm's reach of a gun.
If government is the answer, it must have been a really, really, really stupid question.
I dunno, fighting in three of the worst areas in WWII and wasn't killed, and ended up in America afterwards. Guy seems damn lucky to me.
He later emigrated from Russia to the USA and lived in Illinois, where he passed in 1992.
Oh, man. I thought so to. But then I caught this:I guess he was just a glutton for punishment. (I KID! (sort of) I KID!)
If we ever bring in a raft of Norks we should ship them IL so they can feel at home.
They might be able to straighten the place out if you could get enough of them elected.

http://cherrieswriter.wordpress.com/2014/03/17/the-incredibly-stupid-one-at-the-hanoi-hilton/Someone put this on Fb the other day and it is now my favorite POW story. How many people would have the presence of mind to begin immediate and convincing deception while in the middle of a pretty dire survival situation? Moreover, it had to have been enabled by Hegdahl's honest self-assessment of his place in life and how to weaponize it. His whole ruse would have been unavailable to any POW with more rank and/or self-importance. It also reminds me that someone who is popularly regarded as a military soup sandwich may actually be quite valuable if you find out how they tick.
