It’s been a few years since I’ve posted here, but I can’t think of a better reason to get back online.
I had the tremendous privilege of taking two three-day classes (pistol and shotgun) from Louis Awerbuck. He was unmatched.
The classes were at Angeles Range, hosted through ITTS. Either Scott or Brett said something to him about me, because his first words to me (while peering at me over his sunglasses with those remarkable pale grey eyes) were, “I have permission to work your butt today.”
Ummm…
Okay… Nice to meet you too! – Grin -
Brilliant instruction. Remarkable man.
During the pistol class, he took me aside and made a point to pound the issue of fighting mindset into my head. During one of his drills, it became clear that, as an easy-going thirty-something year-old woman, I had never really been in a significant fight. He made me understand that shooting well is but the smallest part of the equation. If forced to engage, THEN DO IT! Immediately! ALL the way. Mindset, indeed.
He also made me understand that if at all possible, it is better not to get into a shooting situation at all, and gave me some strategies to ensure that, too.
But, dayum, my shooting considerably improved. Both classes… My confidence also vastly improved.
At the end of the pistol class, he refused my offer of a handshake. So I hugged him instead.
Thank you, Louis. I will never forget you.
