blender advice
« on: September 06, 2014, 10:20:26 PM »
I have an anniversary coming up and think my wife unit needs a good blender. It should be a great one, like the kitchenaide mixer we got for our wedding, that will last forever.

I have been told that vita-mix is the standard. They are about $500 which isn't a problematic number, but if I spend that much I want to make sure I get the right thing.
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

I bought my wife a blender last year for our anniversary. I ended up getting a Waring Commercial Bar blender since she was just going to use it to make smoothies, margaritas and daiquiris.

I got it new on Ebay for under $60.

These people use blenders and tested some of them.

Vitamix is okay, but for the price you can get a lot more performance.  Something like a Breville Hemisphere, maybe. Same performance at 2/3 the price.

Stainless bar blender for a single-purpose unit.  Sometimes limited in speed options, but made for power, durability and easy cleaning.  Search reviews for current favorites.  Keep in mind they are designed primarily for chopping ice and may not have the best blade design for everyday all-around service.

Last forever, blender? Oster, on/off/pulse model. Not great for smoothies though. =)

Edit: and it's cheap enough to drop some jewelry into the box =D

I have a Cusinart basic blender. It is 600w. It has a rotary low/hi knob and then three push buttons, run/pulse/ice crush. It has a wide bottom glass mixing bowl(?). It works like a champ. Makes great margaritas, smoothies and protein drinks with a couple of ice cubes and a banana thrown in.. I have also used it to make rice flour a few times. I have no complaints. It seems that in this case simple is better.

Run a search on laboratory blenders. Powerful, durable, and big, they are.  Stylish, or pretty, they are not.  Apply [voice=yoda][/voice] as needed.
Gee, I'd love to see your data!

Unless I'm mistaken, all of the "will it blend?" units are Blendtech.

He's asking if they've ever tried blending a Blendtec blender inside of a Blendtec blender.
