California: former state senator Leland Yee pleads guilty to corruption charges

Former state Sen. Leland Yee pleaded guilty Wednesday to a charge of racketeering, admitting he accepted bribes from undercover FBI agents posing as campaign contributors.

In return for the payments, which totaled $34,600, Yee said in his plea agreement that he promised to vote for legislation his donors favored, recommend a software company for a state contract, arrange a meeting with another state senator over legislation, and illegally import firearms, including automatic weapons, from the Philippines.

The irony is that Yee was a major gun-control advocate prior to his fall from grace.

Also: less than 35 grand?  I had no idea he could be bought so easily.



To repeat, Leland Yee is guilty.

Unless this was just part of the charges against him, 5 years and a measley $20k fine is a joke. You or I would get an extra zero behind both the years and fine.

Maybe Chris can explain things to us better than "There's two justice systems. One for the master class, one for you peasants." Petraeus getting two years’ probation plus a fine of $100,000 for multiple felony charges, Hillary walking on mishandling classified info, Senator Rangel not paying his taxes and getting barely a slap on the wrist, etc.

Whereas a "regular person" doing what Yee did would have been thrown under the worst prison in the state, for life.

Update:  disgraced former state senator Yee is now serving his sentence at FCI (Federal Correctional Institution) Fort Worth, TX.   Apparently it's a low-security country club:
