The ‘Top Gear’ crew is coming to Amazon Prime

Top Gear trio Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May have signed a contract to host a new car show on Amazon Prime five months after BBC refused to renew Clarkson’s contract following an altercation between the Top Gear host and a producer on the show.

The deal with Amazon’s  on-demand TV service ends speculation about where the trio would land and commits the hosts to three seasons of the show. Filming on the first season of the show, which is yet to be named, is expected to start this fall. The show will be produced by the trio’s long time executive producer Andy Wilman...

In a brief statement announcing the deal, Jeremy Clarkson said “I feel like I’ve climbed out of a bi-plane and into a spaceship.” The show will arrive on Amazon Prime in 2016.

slight drift:  My Prime membership totaly pays for itself just in shipping costs, much less the free video and musical entertainment.

Prime has over 40 million subscribers, Netflix around 35.

ETA and Amazon has a hell of a lot larger budget than Netflix. I am delighted by the decision.

Wow.. didn't realize Prime streaming had outpaced Netflix. Is that domestic or worldwide? Their viewership on BBC was estimated at upwards of 350 million.

I don't know what % of people with Prime use the streaming service, that number is just those who have Prime accounts and can, if they choose, view the show. Remember that Prime is much more than just the streaming video.

Huh, looking it up that appears to be correct, worldwide anyway. I wonder if the number I saw was for domestic subscribers only? Will this show be available internationally? It appears that Amazon has around 50 million prime members.

Might consider upgrading to prime but I'm still a little put out with Amazon over their decision to ban sales of the Confederate battle flag while allowing sales of nazi and ISIS flags.
