Downfall

The movie about the last days of Third Reich.

It's simply amazing.  How different people reacted to "The End of the World".  Watching some folks party their brains out knowing that they literally had no future (Eva Braun, Fegelein and assorted hangers on); while others continued to do their best to do their duty as they saw it (Krebs, Keitel, Jodl, Mohnke, Haase), those who tried to retain some semblance of humanity (Junge, Speer) and those that became even more monstrous then before (The Goebbels, Grawitz) and those completely deluded of reality (Göring, Himmler, and Reitsch).

An appropriate movie for a 14 year old to see history.  I'm glad someone escaped from the bunker and was able to write down their memories before passing.  Even though it is a horrible episode in human history, it needs to be told.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

Where did you see Downfall?  DVD, rental, online?  I'd like to watch it myself.
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

My wife often says to me, "You are evil and must be destroyed." She may be right.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

I haven't seen the movie, but I've seen the one scene like 50 times.  =D

I should watch it all someday.
“Fear of death increases in exact proportion to increase in wealth,” Hemingway once said. Today, many of us have become rich in the currency of cowardice. We have so many things and so few experiences. We are desperate to live as long as possible, not as large as possible. We are so afraid to say goodbye to the world that we never say hello.
