My tiny home town of Crowell, TX just beat the #1 team in the state (Borden County) to win the Texas Six Man Football Semifinal Championship. This is the third time in three years they'll be playing for the State Championship. Given we lost four starters to graduation we weren't sure they would be even a district contender but the kids knuckled down andgutted through a tough season to make things come together again.
Something like this might be ho-hum to a lot of places but for the only town in the poorest county in Texas, it's a big deal. For some of these kids it may be the highlight of their life. If you want to see how.a small town can rally around their own, keep an eye on something like this. How much, you ask? Well, from a town of 981 more than 4000 showed up for the team's first state championship game. Total attendance for the Six Man championship was second only to the 5A crowd, and even then just by a couple hundred.
While typing this I've gotten about a dozen phone calls and more than 50 texts from family, friends, and classmates about it. Yeah, it's kinda a big thing in our little fly speck of a town.
