Guilty.

She's OK.  Been hunting.  I'll leave the story to her.  It's a good'n.

Huh, I wonder what she's huntag;./h[ jk...............

The deceased is about thirty years old, 5'10", medium build, Caucasian.  Cause of death appears to be a single bullet wound to the head.

So I'm told Charby.  I imagine she'll stop by and let everyone know.

Good for her!  I am still deerless but I sure have shot a lot of pheasants this year, probably one of my better years in a few years.

Hey 280-  I try and make it a habbit to let hunting get in the way of work.

Yeah. I got a nice big-bodied heavy-muscled buck myself, but he was just a big lopsided spike at three or four years old, so aside from some good steaks, he was nothing to brag about in the antlers department. ... went through a lot that week to get him though. That was Thanksgiving evening when I got him. No pheasants in my area, but we have a few grouse show up time to time.

I'm reminded of a joke Daddy told me one time a day or two after 9-11... he said they found three terrorists locally. They caught Bin Huntin and Bin Fishin, but that hadn't caught Bin Workin yet. grin

Been pretty busy.

Killed this guy Sunday morning.

Other than that, just crazy..working a lot, commuting again, did an ACTS shoot on Saturday and then had a meeting about suing some municipalities, got up Sunday, shot this deer, took it to the processor, still made it to my TKD test at noon and then pretty much came home and crashed.

Barbara, very nice!

Cool picture.  Did you have to shoot him, or did you just smack him in the nose really good (using your secret hand-to-hand/hoof training)?

I forgot to post the story!

Well, I belly-crawled on out with a knife in my teeth. The deer ambushed me and we fought hand to antler for several minutes until I wore it down at which point I reached down its throat and tore its heart out with my bare hands. John F. Kerry would have been impressed with my skill and bravery.

No, no, Kerry crawls on his belly with a double-barrelled shotgun.  You know, the same as most hunters do.

Congratulations on a nice buck.  I would have gone knife to antler too, but you are braver than I am to go after a deer when it was armed with that rifle  shocked grin

Barbara, Do you know how much that buck weighed? Looks like it's probably a good bit of meat there.

Now that I think of it, what's your favorite recipe for deer?

~135.

I have to confess..I'm not much of a cook. I usually put a lot of stuff in the crock pot and eat it after 8 hours. Smiley

I'm going to make a lot of jerky, though. Yummy.

135's bigger than a lot of 'em we have in my part of the country.

Crock pot or jerky either one sounds good to me. We just had some of that one I killed on Thanksgiving... battered and fried... with white gravy... Southern style. Soon as the weather's favorable to outside operations (we got rain moving in) I have a bag of mesquite charcoal.

I used to know a guy who said frying in butter is the only way to cook venison but I'll leave that up to your disgression. And no, I don't mind if my thread turns into a "Best Recipe for Venison" thread so let's hear em! .  grin

You need more than just butter, but my favorite is still pretty simple.

2 lbs round or chuck, cubed, marinate in vinaigrette dressing and cheap red wine for 1-2 hrs in refrigerator.
1/2 medium onion, diced (whole one if you really like onions)
1 green pepper, cut into bite size pieces
4 oz sliced mushrooms
2 tablespoons butter (or maybe 3 if you think your cholesterol might be too low)
garlic salt

Into a big frying pan add butter, venison, onion, pepper, shrooms, and a sprinkle of garlic salt. Simmer over med-hi heat, stir regularly for 10-12 min, add more wine if it starts to dry out.

Good side dish is 1cup wild rice, 1 cup white rice, 1 can cream of mushroom soup, and 1 can of milk. Toss it in the oven for 1 1/2 hrs at 325. Check it after an hour to make sure it isn't drying out, you might have to add a little water.
A plan is just a list of things that doesn't happen.
