There have been a couple of State level elections over the past year or so.  The CDU/CSU and SPD grand coalition have been getting their butts handed to them by the FPD (Libertarians) and the AfD ("We need to build a wall") parties.

Nationwide elections are scheduled for Fall 2017 (Date TBD)  But as I stated in this thread the anti-immigrant parties seemed to have coalesced in the AfD and they will probably be Kingmakers, if not a significant part of the Bundestag and government, depending on the "Second Voice" vote, in addition to the regular district voting.

It will be interesting.  I'll go out on a limb and predict that there will be a push to deny benefits and return some (many/most) of the immigrants back to the Middle East and North Africa.  Especially if Trump can wind down the Civil War in Syria, and Iraq continues to push back ISIS...

I'll agree there.  I know that outside of Munich, even left-green leaning (and even full blown, like a couple of my cousins) Bavarians are pretty sick of Merkel's crap, and not just the immigrant stuff. Though from what I'm told that seems to be the straw that broke the camel's back. It's going to be very interesting come election time.

Germans have a lot of baggage when it comes to that.  Since the end of WWII they have been fairly open on letting immigrants some, stay and provide social welfare to them.  Turks in the 80's/90's were the first big group.  (Although many Turks arrived in the 50's and 60's when the German economy was going gangbusters and they need labour, any labour to keep growing.)

I can imagine how displease they are, but are really, really trying to hold back their inner jack-boots.  Again, if Syria winds down, the Germans would be more than happy to ship them home while sending piles of cash to Syria to "help".
