I found this fascinating and a little creepy.

I saw an X-Files episode last week where something really similar to this happened. Pretty gross really. Fungi are creepy enough anyway.

With the magic of genetic engineering, I wonder if we could make a variant that would infect women's brains, instead of climing "up", it would make them okay with us leaving the toilet seat "up" instead.

Even better, it would make them climb up to the top of the headboard and [C E N S O R E D]

??  You've got some kind of fungus in your brainpan already, dude.   A woman's brain being eaten away so she would be more servile? 

I don't know if fungus is as big a threat for us.  We have an advanced immune system that clobbers almost all fungal infections or at least keeps them on the surface.  It's only when the system isn't working well that you see really horrible fungus infections.  And I don't think any of them can get through the barriers protecting the brain.

OK, now that's just gnarly... 

I recall a story about a couple of prospectors who picked up some green fungus that would spread like roots on their skin. The only way they found to get rid of it was to scrub the affected area raw with sand and water.
