Thanks.Machinist friends seem to think it's actually button oilier, made for oil and not grease. Same sort of tool applies, though.

I've got ball, spring flap, and cup oilers on the other machines. Which is why this one was confusing.This is on the ram ways for a shaper.Consensus seems to be that the ways should be oiled with way oil (I use vactra #2), and definitely not greased.

Looks like you found a use for some of those big lathe bits.You might try a piece of vacuum hose on the nozzle of an oil can to try to get oil to the ways.
