There are five things, above all else, that make life worth living: a good relationship with God, a good woman, good health, good friends, and a good cigar.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

Does it come with a dog or two?

Five acres.... only need one junkyard dog, but two would be better.  They're meaner when there are two of them.

Yes, but one of the ugly, bloated, 70s vintage Javelins.

I liked the '68 enough that I owned four of them.

What's a "pony car," as used in this reference from wiki?

"As the winner of Trans-Am race series in 1971, 1972, and 1976, the second-generation AMX variant was the first pony car to be used as a standard vehicle for highway police car duties by an American law enforcement agency.[2]"

I always thought a pony car referred exclusively to Mustangs and maybe Pintos.

Or, rather, does it make reference to horsepower, as in "muscle car?"

???

ETA OK, never mind.  I guess I was half right.  Apparently the name was originally applied to the Mustang, but then got smeared to mean any high end sporty road car.

Defining the class[edit]

The 1964 Mustang provided the template for the new class of automobiles.[7][8] The term "Pony car" to describe members of its ranks was coined by Car Life magazine editor Dennis Shattuck.[9]

"Pony car" is the class of American pseudo-sports cars. The name derives from the Mustang, which was the first of the type, but it generally refers to the entire class comprised of the Mustang and it's competitors, so it also includes the Camaro, Firebird, Barracuda, and Javelin. Not really "high end" at all. They were originally intended to be affordable alternatives to pricier European sports cars.

The Javelin was a fun car, my brother had a 1968 or 1969 one with the 290 and Borg-Warner T10 4 speed. It was a fun car to drive, when he would let me borrow it. My father was a die hard Rambler guy. The first car I remember was a 1958 Rambler station wagon we came back from Alaska in, then a series of Ramblers until I left home and he was driving a Rambler Ambassador. He stayed with them to the end. He also had a soft spot for Volkswagens, 411s and Westfalia vans.

As far as the one in the picture that started all of this, I believe that T-Top is an aftermarket type of thing, I don't believe Javelins were ever offered with T-Tops from the factory.

Looked at the Javelins a little closer and after a little online research, the t-tops on the Javelins are simulated.  It is just a body molding that gives the appearance of the car having a t-top.  Also one of the ones in the sale has what appears to be aftermarket sunroofs added to it.

I was wondering as I had never seen a T-Top version. Now we need a Levi's Edition Gremlin and Pacer and we will be all set!
