Tried it on the biggest dog's nose, as a matter of fact. It stops as soon as it meets resistance. The motor is very weak, just strong enough to close the jaws softly on whatever you're wrenching. I *think* you're supposed to finish tightening the jaws with the thumbwheel before cranking on whatever to 220 foot pounds.
