2006 Buell XB12 Ulysses- yay or nay?
« on: August 14, 2017, 02:45:38 PM »
It's been like 2 years since I've bought another project, err motorcycle, and this one just came on my radar as a lady down my street is selling hers.
She said she used it as her 'snow/rain' bike, which suits me fine... not a big fan of riding the Wide Glide in foul weather, also said she just bought a newer BMW to replace it with..
Anyone familiar with these? Problems or features?

Don't know much, but they have a cult following. Also appeared in a couple episodes of Burn Notice.

Since Buell is out of business, can you still get parts?

In theory you should be able to get parts through Harley dealers, but since Buell was treated like a red-headed step child by most of them there may still be problems.
A plan is just a list of things that doesn't happen.

Sportster drivetrain.

I'd say if cheap buy it. Scariest and most fun bike I ever rode was a 99 buell lightening. Torque like no other.

That- it's almost identical to a late model 1200, just better heads, cams, flywheel/crank, intake, and exhaust than a stock 1200-most other parts are interchangeable.
A good condition lightning is also on my short list for next bike.

Look at the aftermarket support. Probably better than HD's support when new.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.
