Build in brick, concrete or something like that.  Simple, innit?

Get rid of the bugs in your house. IIRC, they only peck where there is food.
Personally, I do not understand how a bunch of people demanding a bigger govt can call themselves anarchist.

How about concrete in a faux wood finish so I can watch them mash their cute little beaks.  grin

Yea, I'm going to have to check the spot where it's pecking. We have siding which is why I'm a little surprised to see a pecker peckin' away. It's at the edge of the roof though.

Not really true.

It could also be "drumming" as a form of marking its territory. It would be odd that it would be doing that this time of year, but hell, two days ago I saw robins hopping around my lawn and my roses are setting buds. With as warm as this "winter" has been, all bets are off.

I used to have a woodpecker that would pound the living hell out of the spouting on the front of my house, right outside of my bedroom window.

The first time it happened it was early spring. The dogs went absolutely apeshit, and I grabbed a gun, thinking someone was hammering on the front door.

When I got to the front door, no one was there, so I opened it and looked around. No one. Damned kids, or drunks.

Closed the door, headed upstairs, and it happened again.

Back down the steps in record time, swung the door open, and nothing. I'm sure had the neighbors seen me they would have wondered why I was standing at the front door in a pair of gym shorts, a .357 in my hand, and a very pissed off/puzzled look on my face.

Just then, the damned bird drummed for a third time, and I finally realized what it was. It was hanging upside down on my gutter just hammering the *expletive deleted*it out of it. Smiley

I came VERY close to introducing that bird to my Smith & Wesson.

Oh, and just so you know, shooting a woodpecker is quite a bad idea. I believe that all forms of wood pecker are Federally protected these days.

I had drumming woodpeckers at my house in Florida.  One of the little beggars was drumming on the aluminum rain gutters, and making quite a racket in the process.  I put one of those swiveling owl decoys on the apex of the roof, and that seemed to take care of things until after woodpecker mating season.  Wink

Some low-brass 20ga will usually do the trick.  Easy on the shoulder, too.

Siding?  Just throw up a new sheet of tar paper.  grin

Okay... high explosives.  No siding left to worry about.

I may be wrong, but I think most species of woodpeckers are migratory. If they're migratory, they're protected. And killing a protected migratory bird isn't a good thing to do.
