Gangsta vs Gangster
« on: January 03, 2018, 10:05:54 AM »
So I just saw a segment on the TV news where a Jeopardy contestant answered a question about a Coolio song called "Gangsta something-something" as "Gangster something-something". They initially gave it to him, but then later took his three grand back because of his pronunciation. Seemed a little SJW (the contestant was as white bread as you can get). Even Coolio apparently said they should have given it to him.

"Gangsta's Paradise" is the name of the song.  If the Jeopardy contestant wrote the answer as "Gangster" then that is the wrong answer.  If he just pronounced it wrong, I would probably give it to him, but Jeopardy usually requires correct pronounciation.

It was verbal, not written.

If the words were reversed, the answer was gangster and he said gangsta, he probably would have gotten away with it.

Which often depends on region.  I b'leeves gangster would come out gangsta in certain parts of the northeast.

Gangsta vs gangster?

I would have said "WHAT? This is rigged. I'm out of here!" and walked off the set.

Coolio is a rapper.
Gangsta's paradise is the song.
Since it was released in 1995...it's almost a classic!

I remember the video clip. There is a fat bald man sweating while singing and hot Michelle Pfeiffer shows up.

Yeah, but nobody cares what Coolio and the Droopy Drawers Gang think.  They were worried that a few actual gangsters might find out and get offended.

Well, the common point is that neither of those two groups paid taxes.
