I saw this dash cam footage that was made public of a shoot out in PA.  I was curious to see commentary from y'all.  It looks to me like the officers didn't do a very good job of controlling the situation.  It also seems to me that getting into a 2-on-1 wrestling match after a gun had already been pulled out wasn't the thing to do.  Either way, it looks like they couldn't control this guy with or without guns drawn.

They didn't shoot when they should have. Him reaching into the car should have had them opening fire.

(As an example of at least one point they should have been shooting.)
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

They overreacted! Why didn't they use tasers on that poor boy who was trying to turn his life around?

Oh, wait...

It took me a second to realize you were joking.  It looked like they tased him multiple times which halted him only as long as the juice was flowing.

Political correctness killed the officer.

Yep, was channeling the inevitable cadre of "he's a poor ute turnin his life 'round!" shitbirds who always seem to come out in situations such as these.

Along with the "they shot him in the back, while he was handcuffed, and he was laying on the ground! Video don't prove nuttin, you can doctor that all you want!"

Had they actually killed him (and it really appears that he NEEDED killing) the cadre would have turned into an enormous chorus.

At one point, one of the troopers (Seiple, I think) picked up what appeared to be a handgun and tossed it away from the scuffle. I couldn't see whose gun it was or where it came from. Yet both officers had guns to return fire when Clary (the perp) grabbed his gun and started shooting. Certainly hectic and confusing but, in the end, I agree that the troopers delayed firing too long.

Shooter didn't have a very imaginative defense.

The handgun looked like it fell from the criminal’s ankle, and was probably why he was so agitated when he was being frisked.

Is he dead?  OP's article said critical but alive.

He died, but the doctors opened his chest and massaged his heart to bring him back. So it could with some degree of veracity be said that he was killed

The shooting happened last year.

The Trooper who was shot had a severed femoral artery. Normally that's fatal. Amazing that he's still alive.

The shitbird who did the shooting was convicted of attempted murder. His lawyer tried to claim self defense in that the shitbird thought the cops were going to kill him.

Security staff at work got a brief on this.  Their article says the extra gun which appeared during the fight was the back-up for one of the troopers.  Ankle rig was opened/damaged during the fight.

Ah, I hadn’t considered that. Good to know.

That's interesting. It was my understanding that some years ago some puckered arsehole in high command had forbidden Troopers from carrying backups. Maybe that was proposed and discarded.

Or maybe the troopers decided to ignore that particular directive.

I wonder if the guy who died and was resuscitated went back to work as a trooper. That would certainly fit the category of "life changing event," and give one cause to reevaluate his career choices.

Yeah. His mother said he didn't understand why they were going to cuff him. I guess his driver's ed class left out the part about don't drive when you're stoned or you can be arrested.

The trooper is still on medical leave, but is getting closer to going back to light duty. He hopes to return to full duty.

PSP troopers can carry back up guns.
