As I get older, my belief system's threshold keeps rising.

I guess somewhere along the line he picked up the story of the founding of Rome.

I reckon I might go along with the abandonment (but why?) at the age of seven (probably more like 10 yo) since kids are surprisingly (to adults) adaptable.  "Might go along."
