Just give florida man a hi-point and a case of bud light, and the problem will take care of itself.

It is 6 foot they said, but half of that is tail.  Still big for a lizard.  I would think 22 would work fine if you are just trying to kill it.  223 or 30-30 ought to work better and give you better range.

Do they suspect this one is an escaped lizard or is there a breeding population?

Saw this on the news last night.  My immediate reaction was "that *expletive deleted*ers dead"!  No way I'm calling the "authoriti's" and waiting around for them to maybe respond while it takes off for the back fence - or even worse, the back door of the house.  And  the "authoriti's" couldn't find it when they did show.

Since it looked like neighbors were close by, I'm grabbing the 12ga with smaller shot, #6 or #8, and getting close up & personal with the bastard.  I'll pay the fine for discharging within city limits.

Cleanup would probably be a bitch.

That is what is nice about having a 55 gallon steel drum for a garage trash can.  I think I could make it fit.  Still have the lid also.  I am sure there is a swamp in driving distance to dump it.

Apart from the possible charges involved in discharging a firearm in city limits and the like, there are also possible wildlife violations.

I am told that in some states, only a wildlife officer or other commissioned peace officer may dispatch wildlife.

There are exceptions, for example in the case of protecting livestock and of course while legally hunting, but in general the best practical advice is apparently Shoot, Shovel, and Shut up, AKA the "SSS" theory.

Regardless of circumstances or caliber.

At least that's what I gather from discussions of matters like this over a long period.

"It was coming right at me"!  Self defense!!  Stand your ground!!!  I always carry my shotgun in the back yard!

There are quieter possibilities too.  Snares, bows, etc.  Sword maybe, knife hell no.

A bite from one of those wouldn't be just painful, there has to be a large chance of a nasty infection.

For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

The article said that they aren't native to Florida, must of been someone's pet or they meant it is a species introduced to Florida but they aren't originally native?

Hey, if the dumb lizard happens to knock over a stack of cinder blocks onto his head, sucks for it, right?  ;)
