Nike shoots themselves in the ... shoe
« on: September 04, 2018, 06:05:42 AM »
Nike has made Colin Kaepernick a poster child for their "Just Do It" ad campaign.

Not surprisingly, a lot of people now want nothing to do with Nike.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/blowback-nike-colin-kaepernick-deal-starts-consumers-lighting-stuff-fire-050755042.html

I wonder if this is going to pay off for Nike in the long run, or be the debacle I fervently hope it will turn out to be. Shoe companies should stick to making shoes, and leave the virtue signaling to the professional SJWs.

Nike sells all over the place, but I can't imagine this helps them.  Why they thought playing politics would be a good thing I don't know.

It could actually be that Nike figures much of its customer base would be sympathetic to Kaepernick. I don't really know, not keeping up with team sports stuff that would lead to jersey sales, wearing the same $400 shoes as some basketball player, etc.

However, hitching your wagon to a lightning rod that is currently getting support from the Iranian president and John Brennan? As a business, you might want to take a step back from someone so volatile.

All over red America somebody is still buying three sets of sports shoes a year for junior. And there are more of them because cousin humping or something. Meanwhile in gender dysphoriaville we don't play sports because winners or inclusion or something.

"Republicans buy shoes, too"

From a very wise man.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

Even as a non-fan, w/o TV, I've noticed a lot of UnderArmor logos showing up on NFL uniforms. Maybe they want players to start demanding Woke Nike gear.

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

I'd say I'm going to start boycotting Nike now, but since their shoes don't fit my feet comfortably, I've never bought them anyway.

The only Nike product I own is a t shirt.

It has been downgraded to rag service or I might just toss it out. It’s old anyway.
For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

If I bought overpriced shoes, I would boycott them.  Unfortunately, I can't because I never bought them anyway.

Is that the guy that used to be the quarterback for the Bears.   I know the media in this town used to lose their damn minds every week during football season over his lackadaisical attitude.

Yeah, he went to some other team a year or two ago. I don't know if he still plays, and I don't care. =D

A vendor dropped a hat on my desk last week when I wasn't there.  Tuesday I showed it to others as I didn't want it (elastic one-size-fits-no-one).  It was pointed out pretty quickly that it had Nike symbols on it.  We hadn't talked about that at work at all.
