Check out FreeOffice while you're at it. I just installed it as a test, and after some limited work with the word processor (TextMaker) and the spreadsheet (PlanMaker), I have to say that I am very impressed. I can't stand the new Microsoft ribbon menu structure, so I chose the classic menu layout during my installation. (You can toggle back and forth after the programs are up and running.) It opens very quickly, and looks more like Word and Excel than the corresponding modules in Libre Office. You have to set it to use .DOCX and XLSX as the default file format, but you can choose that (and you have to set that in Libre Office, as well). It has no option to save in the older .DOC and .XLS formats, but it has no trouble opening those files. I didn't have any heavily formatted documents to bring in as a test on how accurately it preserves formatting, but the letterhead I use, which has a graphic and three different fonts with custom character spacing, came in without any glitches.
I thought I had read that the license for personal use limits you to three machines. I checked the EULA during the installation, and it actually allows five machines, and they can belong to other family members, not just yourself.
As I said, I am very impressed. I haven't checked out the presentation module yet, but I don't have much need for Powerpoint, so if that's not perfect I'm not going to lose sleep over it.
[Edit to add]I just fired up the presentation module. It opened a Powerpoint slide show I made up a couple of years ago with a lot of formatting and a number of fly-in underlines and circles, and numerous fade-in and fade-out transitions. It all came in flawlessly.
