Titanic II
« on: October 23, 2018, 07:24:32 PM »
Apparently someone is having a modernized version of the Titanic built. Not sure if I think that's a cool idea, or tempting Fate.

I recall this idea had been floated (pun intended;  see what I did there?   ) about 20 years ago.   I thought the idea had died of lack of interest given the projected cost.

If they go ahead .... I hope they put enough lifeboats on this time.    Radar would help, too ......

Apparently the two forward funnels (smokestacks) are dummies. Part way up in each one will be observation platforms, and the top of each will house radar blisters.

There's a semi-hidden lifeboat deck with 18 motorized lifeboats, each supposedly holding 250 people (!!). That's 4,500 people. The traditional-looking lifeboats on the upper boat deck are reproductions, for nostalgia/authenticity. Not sure if they'll be functional or not.

How much are the steerage tickets?

You know, I'm not superstitious, but this appears to be a terrible idea.  Or maybe I am ???

My sentiments exactly.

You don't pull the mask off that old Lone Ranger ..."

And you don't name a ship "Titanic."

I was thinking we could give free passage to all the democrats in Congress on the maiden voyage....

As long as they don't call it unsinkable, I wouldn't be worried.

But if you do book passage on it, make sure you're not heir to a title of nobility, or a great manor house, or anything.

Bonus if they can convince Kate Winslet to join the maiden voyage.

Will it have 13 decks and launch on Friday the 13th?
For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

Given that it's launching from Dubai, I think its only hope of sinking is to hit a sand bar instead of an iceberg...

But how can we arrange for an iceberg between the middle east and [formerly] Great Britain?
