Score one for the good guys

https://www.masslive.com/news/boston/index.ssf/2018/12/federal_judge_rules_mass_law_p.html

Massachusetts state law making it illegal to record police and public officials while performing their public duties has been ruled unconstitutional.

Good. I expect the state to appeal, and I hope the appeal supports this ruling.

If you are a public official in the act of conducting official business, I would presume everything you say and do is subject to the same public disclosure/transparency rules as any other government entity. If something that can be ultimately accessed had through and FOIA request then making it a crime for citizens to record it live is a direct contradiction.

It took me a minute to realize the law was targeting secret recordings.  Still glad the judge ruled against it.
